The Ghilarza Summer School takes place in Ghilarza, Sardinia — the town where Antonio Gramsci spent his childhood. Rooting this advanced training programme within the specific cultural context of Sardinia allows participants to engage directly with Sardinian cultural life and to discover the places where Gramsci grew up, received his early education, and developed his first political experiences.

In this way, the roots — including the anthropological dimensions — of Gramsci’s intellectual development can offer meaningful insight into new interpretations of Gramscian themes. At the same time, through the Summer School, Sardinia itself can symbolically welcome back its distinguished fellow citizen, whose thought has now become truly global.

For this reason, alongside workshops reserved for participants, the School also organises public cultural events held both in Ghilarza and in other places closely connected to Gramsci’s life and legacy.
